After advocating for this for the last few years, Provincial Synod and the Archbishop has agreed that 2017 will be known as the Year of the Young. For the entire 2017 we will be placing special focus on various aspects affecting the children and young people of our Church.
It is our hope and prayer that every member of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa (ACSA) will actively and meaningfully, get involved in playing a role in the care and nurture of our young.
Being the start of a new school year, it is appropriate that we focus on EDUCATION. Sunday 5th February 2017 is Provincial Education Sunday.

The Archbishop has also endorsed the use of a prayer resource for Education Sunday produced by the Anglican Board of Education. You can download it here:

Below are some additional prayers which you may include in your services on this Sunday as well as for all the other Sundays during the month of February 2017.
Prayer for Education Institutions
Worthy of all worship
Your Son sat among scholars, asking them questions:
Bless all schools, colleges and universities,
that they may be lively centres
for sound learning, new discovery
and the pursuit of wisdom;
and grant that those who teach and those who learn,
may praise you as the source of all truth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord… Amen!
A Prayer for Students
Christ our Teacher.
You dwell deep within each of our students:
In those who struggle academically;
And in those who excel;
In those who seek attention by acting out.
And in those who remain silent and try to hide from notice;
In those surrounded by friends, and in those feeling lonely;
Give us the grace to know your presence in each
of them and to respond to their needs you would to ours.
Lord in your mercy

A prayer for Teachers
Lord, grant us wisdom to
Nurture and instruct those
You have given us to teach.
Give us patience and a loving attitude.
Help us remember that teaching and having
fun are important to them, and to me.
May we always set an example
of Your love and care.
Lord in your mercy

Prayer for Parents
O Lord, we give you thanks for having given us children.
They are our joy and we accept with serenity the worries, fears
and hard work which bring us pain.
Help us to love them sincerely.
Through us you gave life to them;
From eternity you knew them and loved them.
Give us wisdom to guide them, patience to teach them,
vigilance to accustom them to good through our examples.
Lord in your mercy

Prayer for those in Education Administration and Governance
Our loving God, in times past up to the present,
You chose men and women for a
Special mission for Your Kingdom.
Grant our Education Ministers and Administrators in National and Provincial Government
the strength, courage and wisdom to bring about an Education System of excellence
characterized by integrity, responsibility, transparency and accountability.
May the efficacy of the Education System result in our schools becoming real safe places for instruction and learning that results in the restoration of justice,
dignity, honor and peace in our schools and in society.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
(Please note that you may have to seek permission from your Parish Priest, or even your Bishop, to use these prayers during Sunday Worship Services.)
