On Saturday, 7th September the ASF (Anglican Students Federation) Eastern Cape Region which includes Fort Hare University, UFH (the hosts), Walter Sisulu University (WSU), Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Rhodes University (RU), Lilitha Nursing College and Ikhala TVET College, hosted a 1 day Retreat in the University of Fort Hare_East London campus (in the area of the Diocese of Grahamstown). The retreat was oopened with Eucharist by Celebrant Revd. Wezo Bloko, who in his sermon highlighted that as student’s: “Let us not force our faith in the expense of others also mentioning that let’s avoid being the breeder of victims”
After the Eucharist all branches that were present introduced themselves, also the Diocesan Youth Guild members of East London archdeaconry (DYG) were present in support of the retreat and fellowship.
We had Speakers from offices of GBV Awareness Mr Anele Mjoji and Ms Lerato Nkadimeng for Mental healthcare awareness. They educated us on ways of how to deal with the 2 issues also equipped us by giving coping mechanisms.
Revd MMamello of Diocese of Khahlamba was given a chance to discuss on the matter of “Growing the Church“, it was a powerful discussion because members shared ideas like *having home cells for prayers, giving safe and free space for youth to find purpose in church.*
After that it was closure and departures!
