105 YEARS AND COUNTING

On Sunday, 9 June 2024, the Anglican Guild of Servers of the Sanctuary celebrated its 105-year anniversary, uniting members from the Diocese of Cape Town to honour their dedication to serving the church community in a touching demonstration of devotion and fellowship. St Faith’s, Plumstead had the honor of hosting the Guild of The Servants of the Sanctuary (GSS) for the Chapter of St Francis of Assisi and Eucharist service, presided over by Bishop Joshua, assisted by the Rector, Reverend Ronald Dias and the GSS Chaplain Reverend Canon Nobuntu Mageza.
In the sacred church of St. Faith’s, servers from different parishes came together to take part in a day full of respect, camaraderie, and one goal. Every guild member, from the most seasoned veterans to the newest recruits, contributed significantly to the day’s events and exemplified the welcoming culture at the core of the Anglican calling as Christians.
Without a doubt, the event’s high point was exceptional commitment and devotion to the GSS. After displaying their dedication to the duties of the sanctuary, and having attended a certain number of chapter services, they were welcomed to the GSS family, through a formal process of receiving a medal as a token of their full membership. Playing second fiddle to this occasion, was the licensing of the newly elected office bearers of the Guild of the Servers of the Sanctuary. The executive team exemplifies the attitude of sacrifice and devotion that characterises the guild, from their relentless work behind the scenes and unwavering dedication to preserving the Anglican faith’s traditions. Lihle Bikwana (18) from the parish of St. Coumba, Gugulethu, says, “It was a wonderful & uplifting service. It was also overwhelming, as I, too, was a licensee, as the Assistant Secretary.”

A spirit of inspiration and thankfulness bestowed the congregants and altar servers as the day came to an end. Due to the Anglican Guild of Servers reaffirming their dedication to serve the church, the strong link which binds them as members of a lively and caring community is strengthened in uniting to celebrate their shared mission. Pumeza Zoliswa Ndima (48), associate member of Eluvukweni Anglican Church Server’s Guild says, “The presence of Bishop Joshua Louw made the service one to remember. The sermon spoke to the young people and even I was touched. The altar servers came out in their numbers to celebrate this milestone, so it was very special.”

Members of the Anglican Guild of Servers left with hearts full of gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose, prepared to carry on their great calling with unshakable devotion and steady dedication.
