The Youth of Kgalagadi Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kimberley & Kuruman held its annual conference on the 20th to 22nd of September 2024 at St. Christopher Sedibeng, a chapelry under the parish of St. Monica. Under the theme Let go and Let God.
The vibrant and spiritually enriching conference was an engaging experience for young people, filled with exciting activities. An opening address was made by the Archdeaconry Youth Secretary after a wonderful evening service led by Sis Botho Mosinki.
The young people later took part and enjoyed the music competitions, highlighting the talents of different groups before the day concluded with an uplifting Revival service led by Br Thabiso and Sis Mamie Tlhomedi.
A key session on the second day was an address by the Diocesan Youth President about AYSA (Anglican Youth of Southern Africa), which young people learned a lot from. There was also a discussion and presentation session led by Sis Kaone Gaetsewe and Sis Reabetswe Pule on different environmental issues that affect us on a daily basis, such as fossil fuels, deforestation, and water and air pollution. Groups had to discuss the negative and positive impacts and then come up with solutions to the problems.
The evening session dived into important social issues with a talk on gender-based violence (GBV) by Reverend Constable Mpona. Later, the young people relaxed and enjoyed a fun-filled evening with a Mjikelelo session and a beauty contest.
The final day was concluded by a solemn Eucharist service led by Canon Rev. Tong and Chaplain Ria Le Grange. The conference concluded with a shared lunch, marking the end of a transformative weekend filled with spiritual reflection, learning, and community bonding.
